Allopathy and homeopathy are the systems of medicines but Ayurveda is not like that.If we separate the word Ayurveda i.e. ‘ayur’ means life and ‘veda’ means knowledge.

We study about the body (sharira), sense organs (indriyas), mind (manas) and soul (atman) in Ayurveda. If these are in equilibrium, we remain healthy and these don't work in harmony, that is considered as death because we become ill whether physical, mental or social. If anybody wants to avoid diseases, various dhatus should be in equilibrium. The WHO also has changed its health definition i.e. a person is healthy only if he is physically, mentally and socially well. The health is not just the absence of diseases. Ayurveda defines health as:

It is said that Knowledge of Ayurveda came in existence since the universe is created. Lord Brahama who is considered to be the creator of this universe. So this Ayurveda knowledge might have come since Lord Brahmas’s day. But the exact creation date of Ayurveda is not known. It is believed that it has been written in ten million verses in 1000 chapters. Then it is gradually descended through several sages, including Bharadwaja, Aitreya, Agnivastha, and finally Charaka. Then Charak’s students compiled Charaka Samhita, which dates between 600 and 1000 B.C.

Charaka Samhita has been compiled in a very systematic that modern medicine system is far from it.Ayurveda totally focuses on health state while modern medicine focuses on the disease free state. In the present time, Modern medicine is now considering the role of the mind in health while Ayurveda incorporates body (sharira), mind (manas) and soul (atman).

Rigveda and Atharvaveda have high respect in the society but Ayurveda is considered to be higher because it deals with life, health, and longevity. If one healthy, one can achieve one’s life goals.
In Ayurveda, the emphasis is on positive health and mind but it is missing in modern medicine system, the emphasis is only on quick relief of the diseased. It is often have been seen that people consider Ayurveda and ayurvedic medicine same but this is not right. Ayurveda has emphasized on prevention and cure, but it focuses on prevention rather than cure.

The objectives of Ayurveda are i) Prevention of health of a health of a healthy person ii) cure of a diseased

Ayurveda is a science of total health care which has  (i) character - achaar, (ii) thought or mind - vichaar, (iii) interpersonal relations - vyavahaar. and (iv) diet - altar.
