An understanding of Yoga

Please Read the complete article below and share and like it.
A definition given by Swami Niranjan “ Yoga is an ancient system of philosophy, lifestyle and techniques that evolve the whole person, the physical, the vitality, the mind and emotions, wisdom, ethics and a higher quality of relationships and the realization of the spiritual reality of each of us.”

Yoga is the process of personal inquiry and experience. It is started in the ancient time when man started a journey of self-discovery. We can improve our self-understanding only when we know how our body works. For self-awareness, we should have knowledge of how our mind works.Self realization is an experience of spirit within us.

Self-realization is the long process and we have to follow the spiritual path for many years. So ancient yogis developed asana, shatkarmas, and pranayamas. Also, our mind should have a clear thinking, so they developed meditation techniques.

The word yoga originated from the Sanskrit word “Yuj” which means ‘yoke’ i.e. unity, harmony, and union. So yoga means self-knowledge, understanding, awareness, and union of individual consciousness to universal consciousness.

The evidence of yoga we get dates back 4000 years to the early Vedas. But, it is believed that yoga was developed before any written forms. And at that time a guru used to tell this knowledge to his disciple by mouth word.

Yoga philosophy tries to answer the basic questions like who are we? What is our purpose to be here in this universe? Does health, suffering, illness, accidents have any role in our life or are this only coincidence?

Yoga has a philosophical background but nobody orders us to believe in it that is why it is not treated as a religion. Yoga has different branches or path like karma yoga, bhakti yoga, gyana yoga, ashtanga yoga. We practice different techniques and follow any path because it is for our personal growth.
Yoga is a lifestyle which deals with our health and wellbeing. It tells in which environment we should live, how we should interact with the people. It also suggests about our behavior. It explains individual consciousness and universal consciousness.

By the practice of yoga, we can evolve our self. It leads us to self-realization and this can be achieved in this life as well. Evolvement means transcendence in our present level of awareness. According to yoga, we have five sheaths(koshas) i.e annamaya kosha(physical body), pranamaya kosha(energy body), manomaya kosha(mental body), vijanmaya kosha(wisdom body), anandmaya kosha(bliss body). So the purpose of our is to transcend from annamaya kosha and reach the anandmaya kosha to experience self-realization.
